(ATLANTA BUSINESS CHRONICLE)–The city of Atlanta has $79 million in mortgage loan money to distribute by the end of the year and wants to help potential homebuyers gain access to it.

A free housing opportunity seminar will be held at City Hall Oct. 3 from 8:30 a.m. until noon to explain how to qualify for loans of up to $50,000 toward the purchase of homes inside 23 empowerment zones throughout the city.

The money may be used for down payments, closing costs, gap financing, or principal or interest rate reduction. The Atlanta Mortgage Assistance Program is available to qualified low-to-moderate income homebuyers.

To register for the seminar, call 404-330-6047.

The event is being sponsored by Councilwoman Cleta Winslow.
