Getting the year off to a good start? Add these items to your “to-do list” this week!

Clean your carpets.

Bet you didn’t know that the oldest carpet ever found was well over 2,000 years old? This well-preserved “Pazyryk” carpet from 500 B.C. was found in 1949. While the carpeting in your home may not last quite that long (though some estimate that modern-day carpet fibers will last for 10,000 years in a landfill!), you can definitely extend its life by vacuuming it regularly and cleaning it every 12-18 months.

Remove and store holiday lights.

Removing decorations from exterior trees is important for the health of your trees and the lifespan of your decorations. It might not be fun, but taking down and storing those lights is an important item for your early winter “to do” list.

Inspect the trees on your property for damage.

And speaking of trees, heavy snow and ice storms cause damage to trees by bending and breaking branches. Winter winds and dryness can make weak and “sickly” trees on your property downright dangerous. So inspect your trees NOW, before any damage occurs. If you suspect disease, or you need dead branches trimmed or removed, winter is the best time to take care of either.
