Due Dates for Filing for Georgia Homestead Exemptions

Did you know that filing for Homestead can save you money on your taxes, but do it early because the deadline is late March or early April depending on your county.

If you bought your home in 2011 and lived in it January 1st, 2012 as your primary legal residence, you can file between now and April 1st. Once you file, that’s it, you don’t have to file for Homestead Exemption again every year. If you don’t file by April 1, you will not get the exemption for this year. Current year exemptions must be applied for January 2 through April 1^st. Applications received after April 1^st will be processed for the following year. Homeowners may need to provide their Warranty Deed book and page, proof of residence, social security numbers, driver’s license and car tag info.
