During the January 6th meeting, the Alpharetta City Council approved a new ordinance regulating short-term rentals within the city.

The ordinance requires short-term rental property owners to appoint a designated contact person and adhere to occupancy limits, noise levels, and conduct standards that align closely with most online rental platforms.

Additionally, each short-term rental unit must obtain an annual license from the city and, if governed by a homeowners association, provide evidence of the HOA regulation for short-term rental use.\

REALTORS® collaborated with city staff to help develop a balanced ordinance, ensuring property owners could continue operating short-term rentals without overburdensome regulation while preserving the character of Alpharetta’s neighborhoods.

The ordinance follows a public meeting held last year, where city officials engaged with residents, short-term rental owners, and operators to discuss the implications of short-term rentals. While most attendees supported allowing short-term rentals, some residents voiced concerns about potential changes to the character of their neighborhoods.
